Logan Elliot Batrop - Birth story!
It all started on the 27th May - moving day! Baby was due the day before but he was keeping us waiting, the 27th came and went and at around 7.30am the next morning I felt what I knew was a contraction but it was only small and very bearable. They continued through the day, getting stronger each time. At around tea time my mum decided to take me for a long walk to do a small food shop which I didnt want to do but it helped progress things and I ended the walk with a slushy which was my craving!
Later that night at around 9-10pm my contractions had got 4-5 mins apart so i called the assessment unit but they told me i couldn't go in until they were 2-3 mins apart so I had a bath to try and ease them, it didn't help and i needed Sam to help me wash my hair and help me out which broke me. I called the unit again as they were closer, they then told us we could go in - YES! we got there at around 3am and i was shown to a room to be checked over, I was 2cms - the midwife told me I could either go home or stay without Sam, I didn't want to do either but she then came back told us she'd gotten us a room so we could both stay! We got to the room and both tried to sleep before babies arrival, Sam slept like a baby but my contractions stopped me then something changed, I felt pressure so I went to the toilet and needed Sam to help me out.
(quick side note, all the time I was in the room I wasn't checked by a midwife, that's odd - right?!)
It was now 7.30am and I then needed to push so sam got a midwife and I was fully dilated! I couldn't believe it! We were about to meet our baby, we arrived to the delivery suite and my lovely midwife started to fill the pool - i'd wanted a water birth the whole way through my pregnancy but I couldn't move from the bed as the pain was so bad! I was then given gas and air and 6 pushes and lots of screams later our baby was there, on my chest and I couldn't believe it! I then turned to Sam and said "baby, I've done it!" at this point I believe Sam was in tears, it's crazy because you know the birth is going to happen but it's still a shock when it happens.

It was like a dream and its true what they say, you dont know what love is until you see your child for the first time! Its a different kind of love to your partner a whole new and special love.
I was stitched up first as I had a small internal graze then the bad stuff happened, we delayed delivering the placenta but after an hour it was time. my midwife gave me the injection, took me to the toilet, I pushed it out and then I bleed. Alot of people then entered the bathroom and I was taken back to the bed once it had slowed down abit. The midwife then made sure I was okay and then we were taken to the ward where I stayed for almost 3 days! In that time I had 3 blood transfusions due to my iron levels hence why I bleed so much!
Logan Elliot Bartop was born on 29th May @ 8:02am and weighted 8lbs! We've never been more in love, he's now 10 weeks and hes such a happy baby!
Love, Alex x
